For Clay Today GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Connie Butler, a dedicated public servant-leader who recently concluded three terms on the Green Cove Springs City Council, has recently accepted the role of Honorary Chair for the 2025-2026 fundraising initiative of the Palmetto Community Development Corporation (PCDC), Inc.

The primary fundraising project for the local nonprofit is the 2026 edition of CLAY COUNTY: Communities, Families & Friends, a magazine scheduled for publication during Clay History Month next May.

Butler shared her thoughts on its significance, stating, “Our community is a unique place to live with the advantages of making way to birthing greater possibilities for future generations. This is a deeper meaning for me to be ‘Etched in Clay,’ by preparing a legacy for tomorrow.”

She is the group’s first woman fundraising chair.

Next year’s magazine theme, “Etched in Clay,” will creatively capture the heart, soul and spirit of this region. Butler also noted significant interest from potential ad sponsors – given increased physical distribution from 1000 to 5000 copies, broadening readership.

Palmetto CDC President Cheryl King emphasized that the magazine’s first priority is updating The Palmetto House project in order to effectively deliver needed services in the future.

Butler, as honorary fundraising chair, follows the footsteps of three respected Clay County members: Hon. Curtis Richardson (2023), Hon. John Bowles (2024), and Thomas Huggins, Jr. (2025). Email inquiries to PalmettoCDCClay@gmail.com.
