Our Mission
Our mission is to empower families, senior citizens, youths, and individuals with disabilities in Green Cove Springs, Florida, and throughout Clay County, by prioritizing financial literacy, asset-building, and mental health programs. We also support technical and educational initiatives that foster lasting and broad-based community and economic development. The Palmetto Community Development Corporation is focusing on updating a building that will be used to facilitate this mission in collaboration with other non-profit organizations.
What Is a Community Development Corporation?
A community development corporation spans various sectors, including economic development, education, community organizing, and real estate. Elements such as an educated workforce, adequate infrastructure (water, sewer, and roads), quality housing, healthcare, and social services are essential to fostering economic opportunity. Therefore, a community development responds to needs and gaps in these areas with partnering organizations, philanthropists, and the government.
Although our work can encompass both physical improvements—such as housing and infrastructure—and functional initiatives, Palmetto Community Development Corporation, Inc., will focus on health protection, such as mental health counseling, financial literacy, virtual literacy, community resiliency through genealogy and historical research, and recreation, all aimed at building community capacity. More Than a Building, It’s a Promise Kept!
The Palmetto House is a thoughtfully repurposed existing structure, transforming a former residential parsonage into functional offices and meeting spaces designed to support our mission. This one-story building is being adapted to serve as a welcoming hub for planning, collaboration, and community-focused services—laying the groundwork for programs that uplift and serve those in need.
